Ole Miss

The Ole Miss was a diesel towboat with steel hull and twin props. The hull was built at Nashville Bridge Co. in 1936. She was powered by Cooper-Bessemer JS-8 diesels totaling 1600 hp at 450 rpm. Originally she was a steam sternwheeler named Jos. Chotin, completed at Paducah, KY with engines from the Vesta (built 1902). She was converted to prop and diesels were placed by Canulette in 1945-46. She was renamed Paul Chotin in December, 1942 when a new boat came out named Jos. Chotin. Chotin, Inc. owned her until 1955 when she was sold and given the name Ole Miss by Towing Service, Inc., Greenville, MS. In 1963 she was transferred to a new company, Valley Towing Service, Inc., Greenville, MS. Sometime after this she was owned by Ronald Grimm.
