The Ravenswood was originally named Jim Martin. It was a steel-hulled diesel towboat with twin props. She was built in Chicago by Calumet Ship Yard and Dry Dock Co. in 1940, and measured 128 x 30 x 9.5. She had Fairbanks-Morse five cylinder diesels totaling 1150 hp at 300 rpm, and was owned by Ashland Oil & Refining Co., Ashland, KY. She was sold to B & B Towing Co., Charleston, WV in March 1959 and renamed Ravenswood. She was sold in the spring of 1961 to Bartley Towing, Inc., Catlettsburg, KY. She burned October 1962 at Ashland, KY, and was rebuilt by Dravo. In 1965 she was sold to Columbia Marine Service, Cincinnati, OH. The Ravenswood burned two more times: March 24, 1972, at Wheelersburg, OH, and December 4, 1975 at Steubenville, OH.
