Sewickley

Previous

The Sewickley was built in 1930 at Neville Island, Pittsburgh, by Dravo Corp. It was a diesel sternwheeler with a steel hull, 72.2 x 16 x 4. The engine produced 150 hp. It was originally operated by Dravo until it was sold in February 1937 to Capt. John M. Hysmith of Pittsburgh. It was rebuilt by Dravo in 1948 and its original width of 16 feet was increased to 23 feet. At some point (during the rebuild?) it had a Cooper-Bessemer FP-6 diesel with 200 hp installed and was converted from sternwheeler to prop. The Sewickley was sold in July 1967 to Mon River Towing Co., who sold her later in the year to Harvey Johnson, Monaca, PA.

At one time it was owned by Gene Bartley. He traded it and the Producers to E. P. "Bill" Grimm for the Richard Moyle. Later the Sewickley was sold to William Judd of Cincinnati. It is now owned by Robert Harrison of Bellaire, OH. It is 105 ft. long by 23 ft. wide and has 220 hp.
