May

Previous

The May was built by my great-grandfather, Edward Everett Grimm. It was built at Sewickley, PA in 1927, and was 52 x 14 x 2.3 in July 1944, when it was owned by Ernest D. Johnson, Shippingport. Originally a sternwheeler with a wood hull, it was rebuilt and converted to a prop at McKeesport, PA by owners Lysle U. Phar and Paul E. Phar in 1951, although they may have purchased it as early as late July or early August, 1944. In 1951 it was 52 x 12, powered by a Murray & Tregurtha engine with 119 hp.
