Gateway

The Gateway was built in 1953 in Pittsburgh by my grandfather's youngest brother, E. P. "Bill" Grimm. The towing knees came from an earlier boat, the We-No, which was destroyed by a fire. It was a diesel towboat with a steel hull and single prop, powered by a Cooper-Bessemer FW-8-DR engine with 600 hp. It was 80 x 20 x 6.5. In 1954 it was sold to J. E. Crivella of Pittsburgh.

This photo appears to be at Grimm's landing on the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh. The boat was on its trial run, but not yet completed.
