C. A. Grimm

This is the second C. A. Grimm, built in Pittsburgh in 1942 by Clarence A. "Jack" Grimm. It was a diesel, sternwheel towboat with a wood hull, powered by a 150 hp Fairbanks-Morse diesel. It was 72 x 18 x 4, and was a twin to the first C. A. Grimm, which was renamed the Nancy Jane. Uncle Jack sold it on completion to Capt. Thomas Campbell, owner of Coal City Towing Co. in Pittsburgh, who put it into service in late November, 1942. It was sold in 1949 to Roy J. Burr (Reliable Towing Co.) in Pittsburgh, and again to Charles Zubik of Pittsburgh in 1951. It was resold to Harry Zubik Co. in September, 1952, and was still owned by Harry Zubik in March 1958. It sunk, probably in 1958 or 1959.

My dad's first steady job was on the C. A. Grimm, working for Coal City Towing Co.
